Northern Lights Fireworks - Frequently Asked Questions

Updated: Nov 12, 2021

As a professional firework display company, at Northern Lights Fireworks we get asked a lot of questions. We've answered some of our most asked questions below.

What happens if it rains?

This is common question. The simple answer is 'yes' fireworks do work in the rain. At Northern Lights Fireworks all our fireworks are adequately protected in the event of wet weather and are therefore not affected. (Although some of our crew may get wet!)

Can I have fireworks to music?

As twice British Musical Firework Champions in 2000 and 2001 we can ensure we never miss a beat. Our crew members specialise in areas such as show management, creativity, timing, precision, assembly and technology. We can use your selected music, or alternatively leave it up to our expert team to create a musical firework spectacular.

What if the venue only allow quiet fireworks?

Northern Lights Fireworks can provide quiet displays. We will select material that is sure to 'wow' your guests even without the big bangs. We have fired by working farms and livestock

Do you ever cancel displays?

Northern Lights Fireworks Bonfire Night Display

Yes, however this is extremely rare and only occurred once since the company was established. Adverse weather conditions, in particular wind, can massively impact the safe firing of fireworks. At Northern Lights Fireworks we reserve the right to delay, stop or cancel a display if it impacts the safety of the spectators.

How much space do I need?

We have access to a wide range of material, some which require 5m and have zero fallout to others which require over 200m. Much will depend on your event and venue. Our over-riding concern is, of course, safety and every display is preceded by a site visit and full risk assessment.

Can I surprise my guests with fireworks?

Whether the firework display is booked at your request or by family and friends, Northern Lights Fireworks will maintain a discreet presence until the moment arrives to fill the sky with light and sound spectacular.

How long does a firework display last?

As long at you like. As a guideline you can expect £150 per minute - but this is dependant on the type of fireworks that are part of your show, and the type of display. It is often better to have a short, multi-layered display to give greater impact and a more intense effect.

Can I have a display at any time of the year?

We can provide firework displays for any occasion all year round. However in the UK, by law we can fire displays up to 11pm, with the exception for: Bonfire Night, when the cut off is midnight. New Year's Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year, when the cut off is 1am.

Are you members of any professional bodies?

British Pyrotechnists Asssocation

Northern Lights Fireworks are members of The BPA (British Pyrotechnists Association) and all crew members are trained to the highest level on this programme, to ensure maximum safety of crew and spectators. We are also members of the EIG (The Explosives Industry Group) and FSG (Federation of Small Businesses).

Are you firework displays covered by insurance?

Northern Lights Fireworks Limited are covered by comprehensive insurance policy. All of our firework displays are automatically covered by our £10M public liability insurance. Further details and copies of the insurance certificate are available upon request.
